With »Death and the Maiden«, Spanish choreographer Iván Pérez focuses on the themes of mortality, vulnerability and distress, inspired by his personal experience. Pérez lost his parents when he was 20 years old from a severe illness, coinciding with the age at which Franz Schubert wrote his compelling String Quartet back in the year 1824. This marks Pérez’s second collaboration with the dance ensemble of the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, and for the first time, will be supported by the Pfalzphilharmonie Kaiserslautern. Thus, the piece unfolds a world of deeply felt and materialized emotions, resulting in a poignant dance of death and a testament of the fragility of life.
