“The cosmos is rhythm, sound, and vibration. This magnificent new dance piece by Iván Pérez, titled "Reality and the Cosmos," will neither show nor tell more, and yet that is enough. "God gave us music so that, firstly, we might be led upwards through it," wrote the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, for whom music was also the birthplace of tragedy, that culpable entanglement of humankind in its own fate on Earth. It is a specific characteristic of Pérez, who has served as artistic director of dancetheatreheidelberg since 2018, to want to address precisely this as little as possible on stage. The cosmos as a frame of reference often plays a role for him; with "Reality and the Cosmos," the Spaniard reveals himself more overtly than ever before as an artist distinguished by profound spiritual understanding.” - Alexandra Karabelas, Die Deutsche Bühne
Reality and the Cosmos
In his creation “Reality and the Cosmos”, former artistic director of Dance Theatre Heidelberg (DTH), Iván Pérez, plays with cosmological visions on stage and shines a light on our fascination with the universe. Through movement, sound, and stage design, DTH-dancers and musicians of the Philharmonic Orchestra Heidelberg invite the audience to ponder our relationship with the cosmos. They explore new spaces and create a poetic universe which is rich in musical, physical and visual compositions.
